Mountain Lion

Perhaps one of the hardest animals to hunt in North America would be the mt. lion. Sure hunting them can be done by using dogs and running them until you tree a cat but think about it; the dogs actually do all the hunting and all you do is follow the dogs until they get a cat and you harvest the lion. Yes, this is a way to hunt the mt. lion and proves to be the most successful way of hunting them but what about hunting them the old fashioned way? True spot and stalk for the sneakiest animal in the woods. Now that would be a feat rarely done by any hunter anywhere. Imagine glassing in the wild and all of a sudden spotting a lion either walking or laying down enjoying the sun in a very remote area. Next, what do you do? How can you figure out a plan to stalk and harvest such an animal whose senses are above most predators known to man? We at Apache Outdoors strive to find this solution and have been successful at doing just that: harvesting a mt. lion by true spot and stalk. Yes we have done it before and can do it again. On the average our hunter always spots a lion and most cases has a chance at stalking it. We have approx. a 40% success rate on our clients harvesting a lion in this way.

In reality, the chances are slim to none at even finding one of these creatures but we continue to scout year 'round and locate the places they live and hunt and the routes they use in between. Also we try to figure out how often they use these routes. Determining these things takes a lot of time in the woods in some of the most remote areas of our reservation. We are good at judging where and when a lion will use an area. But to be able to hike to these areas can take some real climbing abilities. During our last hunt, one of the hunters didn't want to walk to the edge of a canyon due to his fear of heights and missed out at a chance at a lion just 30 yards below! So if you would like to try for one of these truly awesome predators of the wild, call us and we can set up a hunt for one of these animals. you may also learn a lot about their habits and ways and how to field judge tracks and sign. We will do our very best to help you make a true spot and stalk a reality for the ever so elusive mountain lion.
