San Carlos offers turkey hunting for the average hunter or experienced one looking to complete the turkey grand slam. The merriam's turkey roam the mountains of San Carlos and harvesting one with a 14 inch beard is not uncommon. Many of my clients have fulfilled their grand slams of turkey here and also combined it with some fishing in the high country as well as San Carlos and Talkalai Lakes near the town of San Carlos. Many of our clients opted for a fully guided camp in the wilderness versus sleeping in motels and having a very long drive every morning and evening from the hunt areas to the motel. Calling in a big gobbler in to only a few yards is unlike anything you experience in other big game hunting. To see a huge gobbler strutting within a few yards working the hens is a sight to see. Many hunters will sometimes wait to shoot while watching the birds do their thing.
